By endgame, influence is far more important than money. They are more efficient than clippers in terms of influence if you use their full cargo capacity. I've just run a variety of tests to confirm. I disagree with some of your trade route assertions. A Clipper on the other hand almost always outruns them. They might outrun a Pirate under good conditions, but under bad Conditions they will be easy prey. Under no Circumstances should you ever use Steam Cargo Ships. And you might get a few Steam Battle Ships to hunt down Pirates or do Missions. Because that one doesnt have a Sail Equivalent. The Only Steam Ship you might really need is the Oil Tanker. ![]() A few Steam Battle Ships might be nice, but theyre not a Replacement for the Cheap Firepower that is a Line Ship. But for real Battles, you want Line Ships. The Battle ship is good for Missions, and a single Battle Ship might be usefull to hunt down Pirate Ships, thanks to it not depending on wind. The Monitor has the same problem, but to a smaller Degree. But factoring in the Costs, 4 Line Ships are way better than one Battle Ship. The Battle Ship has more health but does less damage (at least on close Distance, Steamer is more consistent with its damage at long Range). Investment costs for Steamers are really insane). That leads to the Situation where 2 Clippers are much faster, cheaper and can carry more goods than one Steam Ship. So, unloading all 6 Bays will take MUCH longer than unloading 4. And that Time depends greatly (like, REALLY big time) on the amount of Goods that are being transfered (within one Map, this might be more than 50% of the complete Route Time even with a full clipper). And, the biggest problem: A lot of the Time a Ship will need for a Cargo Route is Loading / Unloading. Steamer will do 11 knots (or something), Sail will do 8-20. That will make you wonder, but there is more. the Clipper.Ĭlipper costs 125 (running costs, factor in Investment Costs and stuff gets even worse for the Steamer) and has 4 Cargo bays.
